Open House Fall 2014

Thanks to everyone who visited for our Fall Open House this year.  It was a beautiful day!
The food table featured our Halladay mixes.  The meatballs were a hit, as was the spicy bite of the stuffed celery.  If you haven't tried Halladay, they are our favorites for dips, spreads, soups, & deserts.  We think you'll like them too.
Another of our favorites--the pumpkin. . . lots and lots of pumpkins :)
Frost expected tonight!

Meijer Gardens & Sculpture Park

If you ever get a chance to go to the Meijer Gardens and Sculpture Park in Grand Rapids, Michigan, be sure to go.  The gardens are beautiful, the sculptures are impressive.   Look what they did with their pumpkins!
Hidden among the sweet potato vines. . .

 . . . and pumpkins as mulch!

A few of the sculptures:
Beautiful bears enjoying the fall flower beds
of coleus, flax, zinnias, sweet potato vine, and mums.
This guy is HuGe--he'd make Goliath at The Farm look small!
Mad Mom--even tho she's unhappy, she makes you smile :)
And a few things reminiscent of The Farm!

Christmas Open House At The Farm!

To our Friends ~
I hope this finds you well, and preparing your heart and home for the holidays ahead. In spite of some rough waters, we still have much to be thankful for. I pray God’s rich blessing on you all!
We are SO grateful that we get to go to work each day and have fun creating an incredible experience for you to do some holiday shopping! Last week, ‘Winter Woodland’ & ‘Christmas Past’ appeared. Tomorrow, we start on the ‘Enchanted Forest’.
We have gathered all Fall merchandise and marked it down, in case you need something for Thanksgiving. Of course, we’ll be enjoying that day with family, but the rest of the week, hours are the same.
Christmas Open House: Saturday Dec 1, 10-5 and Sunday Dec 2, 1-4.
Closing House: Saturday Dec 15, 10-5. This is the last day for the season, with most things on sale or clearance! We re-open March 1. Thanks for another great year!

Here's Spot, keeping an eye out for all the fall happenings at The Farm.  This weekend, there's even a wedding!  Can't wait to see those pictures.
During the spring and summer, it's natural to assume the bittersweet is just another green vine providing shade for the chickens.  But then the berries explode in shades of orange, red, & yellow,  and we all HaVe to have some to drape over our pumpkins :)   And speaking of pumpkins:
We're busy getting ready for Open House this coming weekend, Saturday October 1st 10 - 5, and Sunday the 2nd from 1 to 4 pm.   The garden is still beautiful and we have lots of pumpkins and new things for fall.    There will be treats too :)
And some other dates for your calendar:
Petersburg Holiday Market Place, Saturday November 12th, 10 to 5
The Farm's Christmas Open House Saturday December 3rd, 10 to 5 and Sunday the 4th 1 to 4.
The Farm's Closing House, last day for year-end clearance Saturday December 17th, 10 to 5.
Looking forward to seeing you soon!

Late Summer/Early Fall Vines

People have been asking about the malabar spinach that's growing on the head board out back.   It is edible, although we grew it cause it's pretty.  It was a little slow to start, but once the heat came on, it really took off.  Beautiful deep green leaves, shiny red stems, and now  little pink/white blooms.  Put this one on  your plant-one-of-these-next-year list.

And here's cypress vine, one of our favorites, with the little red trumpet blooms that the hummingbirds (and the bluebirds) love.  Lots of other vining going on in the garden too--snail vine, morning glories, sweet autumn . . .

We found malabar spinach thanks to Peggy's recommendation.     What's your favorite vine?   Let us know, cause we'll want to put it on our plant-one-of-these-next-year list  too!

The Sun is Shining!

After all these dreary rainy days, it's so nice to have the sunshine back.  Hope everybody gets a chance to get outside and enjoy it this week!  Here's a shot of the burning bush that's in the Bible garden.  It's magnificent this year. . .

September Saturday

Looks like another beautiful day at The Farm. These mums are starring today, along with great pumpkins that set everything off just right.    Inside the shop, we're in a flurry of activity, getting ready for Open House next weekend!
